House & Home

House…

When we took the first walk through of our current house before we bought it, we just fell in love with it. It had a lot of the same features that our first home had and being a bit sentimental, I wanted our next house to have some of those feels.

And this one definitely did! It is a two story brick with a big porch and lots of character. Built in 1926, it contains many of those beautiful features from that time: high baseboards, old grates, double brick, stained glass and more.

In the past three years our family has grown from one child to four and with that has come some, well, “readjusting” of our space. We have made some upgrades in these first three years and are gradually making the house we love more accommodating for a big family.  I’m looking forward to going through some pictures and documenting some of past projects we’ve done in these three years to see how far we’ve come!

…& Home

One of my goals in maintaining a home is to make it cozy and warm, a welcoming oasis for my family on lazy days and after crazy ones too. I also want it to be filled with things we love, things linked to memories of places we’ve been, things that we’ve looked for and picked out together, and things that reflect our personalities and taste. I also want my kids to be able to look back and have warm thoughts about the memories that we are creating in this place.

Finding a balance between achieving this goal and getting caught up the business of life and motherhood has definitely proven challenging. (Check out the section on Life & Parenting for more on that!) My hope is that in the effort to make my house a home I don’t lose out on the important things –  like being present in the moment or spending quality time with my family.  Because really, wherever that crazy bunch is, that’s where my true home is..
